Welcome! My name is Sherry C. Knox, and I am a trained and skilled stenotype reporter. You may call someone with this skill a court reporter. I use my skills in a setting unlike the legal setting. I work with the Deaf, hard-of-hearing, and late-deafened communities. Primarily, I work in the Washington, D.C. Metro Area, but periodically, my work takes me outside the metropolitan area covering assignments for various Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) users. From time to time, my commute is just a few steps to my home office where I also provide CART and captioning services via the internet.
What is CART? you ask. Communication Access Realtime Translation, often referred to as the acronym CART, is a word-for-word speech-to-text interpreting service for people who need communication access. CART provides a complete translation of all spoken words and environmental sounds, empowering consumers to decide for themselves what information is important to them. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) specifically recognizes CART as an assistive technology that affords effective communication access.
Please take a moment to browse my site to learn more about my wonderful profession of CART reporting and captioning.
